Born in Marion, Alabama, Frank Bowden Chilton (1845-1926) was the son of Reverend Thomas and Louisa Chilton. In 1851, he moved with his family to Houston, Texas, relocating two years later to Montgomery, Texas. During the Civil War, Chilton enlisted in Hood’s Brigade, Company H of the 4th Texas Regiment in the Confederate Army. Because of his youth, he was discharged from the regiment. During the Civil War, Hood's Texas Brigade of the Confederate Army organized on October 22, 1861, in Richmond, Virginia, under the command of Brig. Gen. Louis T. Wigfall with the First, Fourth, and Fifth Texas Infantry Regiments.
